One of my greatest joys in relocating to the greater Baltimore area is the amount of B&Ms within a 30 minute drive. Chesapeake Cigar and Tobacco Company in Edgewater, MD has become my favorite local by far. It is a mere 20 minutes from my door, which is nothing compared to the +2 hour drives I had grown accustomed to in Oklahoma. Aside from the short drive, there are so many wonderful things about Chesapeake Cigar and Tobacco Co that make it my home away from home and my shelter from the storm. I will get to those in a moment, but first, let’s talk details.

Chesapeake Cigar and Tobacco Company opened its doors in June of 2009 with the vision of being a friendly and inviting atmosphere for cigar smokers to escape. Mike Lohsl and his wife, Connie have created exactly that.

Right outside the shop there are several tables and chairs for customers that care to enjoy the nicer Maryland days out doors. Then you walk through the door, to the right there is a very comfortable seating area, pool table and domino table. This front section is designed perfectly for conversation or a game or two of dominoes.

To the left are display cases full of any cigar accessory you may need and the door to the humidor. There is generous shelving all around that is very well stocked. I have always been able to find anything I may want, from every day favorites to the best of the boutiques on these shelves.

Once you make your purchase, you can head to the back of the shop, which is my favorite hangout. There you will find 3 large flat screen TVs always playing the latest sports, shows or movies. There are leather couches set up as well. I have spent many an evening very comfortably planted on one of those couches smoking 3-4 cigars when my original plan was to smoke one or two. I was “sucked into the vortex” as Mike would say. The entire shop is set up for customers to enjoy themselves and their cigars amongst friends.

It doesn’t matter if you are buying one cigar or 40, passing through or a lounge member, Chesapeake Cigar and Tobacco is a great stop for any smoker. In the two months that I have been back, I have spent many hours at the shop and have felt extremely welcome every time. It is a wonderful place to kick back, relax with fellow cigar smokers and forget about anything outside the shop doors. Its no wonder they were voted Best Cigar Bar in Annapolis in 2010 and 2011!
